How CWJC Works

At CWJC, women are equipped to meet life’s challenges. In 12 weeks of classes, participants gain self-worth and self-respect through lessons in personal discovery. They receive counsel in career selection and they gain a deeper understanding of the Bible. This training is offered at no charge.

When participants complete the course and satisfactorily meet all the program requirements, they attend a graduation ceremony where they receive a certificate of completion.

After reaching self-sufficiency, graduates are encouraged to “give back” to CWJC. They may serve as mentors, instructors or program volunteers.

CWJC of Granbury site coordinators network with area social service agencies, health care providers, businesses and educators. Together, they maximize area resources to benefit women and families in need of assistance.

Profile & History

Thousands of women have found hope for their future through Christian Women’s Job Corps, a growing international program that operates as a ministry of Women’s Missionary Union (WMU).

Christian Women’s Job Corps of Granbury, Inc. (CWJC) began as a vision to help women in need in our community to go from dependency to self-sufficiency by obtaining life and job skills. In November 2001, three Granbury, Texas women attended CWJC National Certification Training to become certified Site Coordinators, which is required to establish a CWJC site. (Current Executive Director Carol Seay was one of the three founding Site Coordinators.)

Over the next 21 months, these women and a small group of leaders met regularly to develop and plan a customized CWJC program that would meet the specific needs of women in Hood County.

CWJC of Granbury has based its organizational structure on a successful national model. Although each CWJC site is autonomous, they share a common purpose — helping women to meet their dreams of independence from poverty and welfare and other unfortunate circumstances.

CWJC of Granbury is operated by a volunteer Board of Directors, trained Site Coordinators and a dedicated group of multi-talented volunteers. It is a non-profit, interdenominational ministry.

Women in need — widows, divorcees, single mothers with children, women with disabilities, abused women, women in poverty and women recovering from substance abuse. These are some of the women helped by CWJC. Since opening its doors on January 6, 2003, CWJC of Granbury has become known as a reliable community agency that serves women of all ages, race and religious backgrounds. In 2006, CWJC of Granbury received the Lake Granbury Area Chamber of Commerce 2005 Business Award of Excellence. The organization also received both the State of Texas Senate and House of Representatives Commendation
